My latest go to way to get my daily protein intake up! If you cannot find a protein powder you like the taste of, this is for you…
A little science lesson before I get to the recipe…
I don’t know if you’ve seen the viral protein Dunkaroo dip going around the internet from Blair Cooley. I started trying to see if I could make a version that I liked with real ingredients because who doesn’t love the nostalgia of Dunkaroos? What’s crazy is the nostalgic flavors of Funfetti and Dunkaroos frosting are made in a lab. They do not exist in real life. The vanilla flavor is not real vanilla, it’s vanillin.
Vanillin is derived from guaiacol or lignin. Guaiacol is a disinfectant and classified as an irritant. Personally, I don’t understand why they are using a synthetic flavor when real vanilla is so easy. The synthetic version has a different flavor than real vanilla bean, so recreating that Funfetti taste cannot be done with real food!
One problem that I run into and saw loads of comments on Blair’s TikTok was that most people cannot find a flavor of protein powder they like. I so agree with this! Protein powder can have a highly artificial taste to it thanks to the “natural flavors” which are often (not always) derived from synthetic origins. If you
What I’ve started doing lately is buying Equip foods unflavored protein powder and then flavoring it however I want. (NOTE: I do like the chocolate flavor though. It only has three ingredients in it. Beef, cocoa powder and Stevia.) The unflavored protein powder only has ONE ingredient: Beef. You can get 15% off your order here.
I realized that every time I was experimenting on this recipe, it ended up having a more wedding cake flavor and so I added a little lemon zest for extra pizzaz. (You just need a very small amount!) I’ve been eating yogurt this way on repeat as a way to increase my protein intake and stay full. It’s a great breakfast or post gym snack. I hope you’ll check it out!
Wedding Cake Yogurt
3/4 cup siggis yogurt
1 scoop unflavored protein powder*
1 tbl maple syrup
1/2 tsp vanilla bean paste
Almond extract
Lemon zest
Put all your ingredients in a bowl and mix! I personally mix the protein powder in first and then add the other ingredients. It’s a little less messy that way!
